Psalm 23

The Good Shepherd

A psalm of David.

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have what I need.
He lets me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside quiet waters.
He renews my life;
he leads me along the right paths[m]
for his name’s sake.
Even when I go through the darkest valley,[n]
I fear no danger,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff—they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in[o] the house of the Lord
as long as I live.[p]

Psalm 24

The King of Glory

A psalm of David.

The earth and everything in it,
the world and its inhabitants,
belong to the Lord;
for he laid its foundation on the seas
and established it on the rivers.

Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?
Who may stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who has not appealed to[q] what is false,
and who has not sworn deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the Lord,
and righteousness[r] from the God of his salvation.
Such is the generation of those who inquire of him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.[s]Selah

Lift up your heads, you gates!
Rise up, ancient doors!
Then the King of glory will come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, you gates!
Rise up, ancient doors!
Then the King of glory will come in.
10 Who is he, this King of glory?
The Lord of Armies,
he is the King of glory. Selah
